If things have gotten so bad that you had to dump (or ran out of ammo) your main gun (a longun) then just having one backup isn’t enough. Cuz if you have burned through 12 – 30 round M-4 Mags and you are still in the fight then you better have enough extra firepower to cover your retreat from the Zombie carnage.
Carry a rifle, and 2 large caliber pistols – if you can, keep another rifle in your car with a backpack full of mags.

why not just mount a heavy machine gun on your car, let someone drive, and you shoot like a fucking maniac.

After the zombie apocalypse I fear the companies manufacturing ammo will be a little short-handed. One shot, one kill, or as Mitch Dugan in “Behind a Veil of Darkness” said, “I have a feeling we may get short of ammo sooner, or later.”

That’s the dumbest thing you can do, it’s about precision with zombies, why waste 1,000 rounds shooting like a fucking maniac hitting limbs,walls,and everything else, when those same 1,000 rounds could be shot from a high caliber rifle at precisely 1,000 zombie heads.
